Training Needs of the Employees within an Organization

‘’Success in Management requires learning as fast the word is changing’’ – Warren Bennis

The advancement in technology and increase of expectations in terms of modernization has affected many employees in a way they get demotivated and depressed. Reason being; only a smaller percentage of people get adapted to the change quickly, and the rest require a long time span to adapt the entire new concept/ technology. To overcome this, the HR department should focus on having frequent trainings to the staff.

Identically, the below 6 theories focuses on providing training based on different models.

1. Goal Setting Theory

2. Behavioral Learning Theory

3. Adult Learning Theory

4. Micro-Learning Theory

5. Constructivist Learning Theory

6. Learning Curve Theory

Understanding the different training models will allow trainers to build more meaningful contents suiting the trainees. And the above are few key models to understand.

Goal Setting Theory        -    This theory includes the basic implantation of the SMART Model, Specific, Measurable, Aggressive, Realistic and Time. This model will help employees to set a clear goal basing the above model.

The goal setting theory directly links and improves the performance along with effective feedbacks. (Locke, 1968 as cited by Tocino-Smith, 2022)

Behavioral Learning Theory - This theory is centered in a way that people learn through their own ideas and interaction with their environment. Whereas, the learners react on the stimuli and responses occurred due to the behaves caused due to the association within the environment.

Adult Learning Theory            -    This theory is focused in a way assuming that the adult learners have a different qualities than the youngsters since they have abundance of practical knowledge experience behind them. The best way to implement this theory is to have a proper survey among the staff members to identify their potential and their need

Micro-Learning Theory            -    This is a theory which is highly argued among many, but the summation is very clear that whatever needs to said, should be short and precise. Which implies that when things are presented short, people will understand clearly that long detailed descriptions.

Constructive Learning Theory  -    This is rather a self learning theory where learners learn quickly and simply when they discover things on their own.

Learning Curve Theory                -    This focuses on an aspect where, the employees reflect a difficult nature at the inception of training but gradually the training will become easier for them. The reason being, when something is repeatedly presented to the trainees, the trainees will learn it faster efficiently.

The problem that we see in organizations is that people tend to learn things in different styles based on their model of understanding. The above sets of theories provide us few key aspects on how HR could train their organization's staff based on their ideas of interest by having surveys on and off. Apart from the mentioned there're other models as well such as gamification theory, sensory theory, story telling learning theory, and social learning theories as well.

  1. Training needs of the employee is an important topic to discuss. And you have clearly written it's theories on training models which gives us a clear idea. Nicely done 😊

  2. a crucial element for organizations to consider As technology improves and workplace techniques and strategies improve, employers and workers must align in terms of knowledge, skills, values, and capacities. Training is one of the most effective strategies to improve knowledge and abilities.
